The minnow

Minnows and barbs are ray-finned freshwater fishes without teeth in the jaws; they grind food with pharyngeal teeth.

Carps, minnows, and loaches. They lack jaw teeth and live in freshwater.

Range and habitat

Widespread in European rivers: Southern Bug, Dnieper, Danube (in Romania, Ukraine and Bulgaria). River Kolpa, an upper tributary to the River Sava in Croatia and Slovenia. Almost extirpated in Danube, to be probably survived only in River Kolpa.
