Range and habitat
This fish lives in central-eastern South America, in the waters of the Paraná River basin in northeastern Argentina, specifically in the central-northern province of Misiones, in the upper basin of the Piray-Miní stream, in the border area between the departments of San Pedro and General Belgrano. The Piray-Miní stream is a tributary of the left bank of the Paraná River, flowing through the center of the Eldorado department. The Paraná River is part of the Plata basin, whose waters flow into the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean through the Río de la Plata.
